Lord of the Rings Movie 1940
Hark, is that Bumpy Gocart I see on The Quest? Don't click off right at The End because a little surprise awaits. (Boy, some people sure have a lot of time on their hands...)

Is this fairytale castle the inspiration for Hogwarts?
If it wasn't, it might as well have been. I think it might have been the inspiration for the movies' set designers, if not for J.K. Rowling. At any rate, it's the 125th anniversary of the death of artistic but oddball King Ludwig II, who built Neuschwanstein Castle in the Bavarian Alps. Check out the great photos in this piece from The Altantic. (No, this is not a paid endorsement, and no, I don't have stock in the company, in case you're wondering.)

Intuitor Insultingly Stupid Movie Physics
Intuitor Insultingly Stupid Movie Physics
We all know that space ships don't actually make wooshing noises in space and big bangs are all flash and no noise, but it's interesting to read about how bad the science is coming out of Hollywood. And folks, it's worse than you think. Some fun movie reviews too.

Name the Film Quiz
A British film site, MovieMail, has some nifty quizzes for you film buffs. I like this particular quiz because it's not for the casual film-goer. You really need to know your movies, including foreign films, to figure out which movies these stills go with. Test your movie knowledge!

Dance Dance Party Revolution Movie Titles
Okay, it's not really Dance Dance Party Revolution, but it looks as if ought to be. So what is this video good for other than dancing? How about speed reading? See how many movie titles you can read, then watch it again to see if they're really there!

TRASH PALACE
A good place to find the long forgotten or perhaps a new treasure. A nice collection of stuff you won't be able to find just anywhere. Perhaps one of the best yet I've found.

Neil Gaiman on Fairy Tales
In the wake of the British release in theaters of Neil Gaiman's Stardust, he wrote an interesting piece about fairy tales and their relationship to his novel for Britain's Guardian Unlimited. Of particular note, he makes the point that fairy tales originally were tales of the fantastic for adults. But you knew that, didn't you?

B Films not yet on DVD
So, I''m channel surfing and happen upon MST 3K the movie on HBO the other day. I miss that show. Naturally, watching that I had some horrible flashbacks of B films and booze and started surfing the net for more obscure films and found this little gem. Contained therein are some forgotten classics...and on the cheap if you want one.

Beowulf: What's the Big Deal?
The Big Deal about Beowulf is only partly in it's amazing CGI. What is also significant is the amazing script by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary. In this excellent insightful review, British writer Henry Gee explores the differences in the story between the poem and it's adaptation. Another insightful review at the Strange Horizons website is from writer Roz Kaveney, and pertains more to the movie per se.
